Renovation Engineering Project – Everton Park Brisbane

91 Sizer Street, Everton Park

At GDS Consulting Engineers, we really enjoy working on structural engineering renovation projects. across Brisbane, particularly when they involve transforming classic Queensland homes while preserving their original character.

One recent project we were involved in was a renovation at 91 Sizer Street in Everton Park, working alongside builder Kirby Saunders Building and architect BAA House Studio. The project involved reviewing the proposed renovation works and providing structural engineering input to support the design and construction process.

A Quintessential Queenslander Reimagined

The property has been described as “a quintessential Queenslander, reimagined to perfection.”

The home has been expertly transformed by the award-winning Saunders Building Company, creating a residence that blends the charm of a traditional Queenslander with contemporary design and functionality. Behind the beautifully restored façade, the home features a series of light-filled living spaces designed with soft tones and natural materials. The layout has been carefully planned to create a seamless indoor-outdoor connection, allowing the home to take full advantage of Brisbane’s climate. A key feature of the design is the north-facing rear aspect, which captures sunlight throughout the year and enhances the warmth and livability of the home.

Elevated Site with Brisbane Views

The property sits on an elevated 607m² allotment in Everton Park, offering impressive views towards Mount Coot-tha. The renovation focused on creating a layout suited to modern family living while maintaining the architectural character that makes Queenslander homes so distinctive.

Projects like this require careful planning to ensure that any structural modifications integrate successfully with the existing building.

Our Role as Structural Engineers

At GDS Consulting Engineers, our role was to provide structural engineering support during the renovation planning and construction stages.

Our involvement included reviewing architectural drawings and renovation plans, assessing structural considerations related to the proposed works, conducting a site inspection to review the existing building and structural elements, and providing engineering advice to support the renovation works.

Early structural engineering input helps ensure that renovation projects can be delivered safely while preserving the integrity of the original home.
