As a cricket fan and junior player growing up, this was one of my favourite projects.
Not all engineering jobs bring back nostalgia but this one certainly did. Long summer holidays spent in the nets dreaming of representing Brisbane and under 12’s.

Structural engineering for cricket net facilities and a club extension at the Coomera Hope Island Cricket Club on the northern Gold Coast. Scope included structural design of the practice net framing and associated works.
Supporting a Local Cricket Club on the Gold Coast

One recent project we were pleased to contribute to was new cricket net facilities and a club extension for the Coomera Hope Island Cricket Club on the northern Gold Coast. Engineering Purpose-Built Practice Nets
Cricket net structures need to be robust, correctly footed and designed to handle wind loading, which is a key consideration for tall, open framed structures like practice nets. GDS provided the structural engineering design for the net framing and the associated club works, sizing the members, footings and connections to suit the site. A well-engineered net facility keeps players safe and keeps maintenance to a minimum over the life of the structure.
Our Role as Structural Engineers
Our involvement included reviewing the proposed facility design, designing the structural framing and footings for the cricket nets, coordinating with the project team and issuing certified structural documentation. We provided engineering advice throughout the process to keep the project practical and cost-effective for the club. GDS provides RPEQ-certified structural design and certification for sporting, community and commercial projects.
