One recent project we were fortunate to be involved in was a renovation at 113 MacDonald Street, Norman Park. This beautiful property sits on an elevated 1,627m² block in one of Norman Park’s most desirable streets and features many stunning original architectural elements.
Working alongside builder Kirby Saunders and architect BAA House Studio, our role was to provide structural engineering support to help deliver the renovation while maintaining the integrity of the existing home.
A Beautiful Character Home in Norman Park
The home is a solid brick and tile residence, featuring rendered brick internal walls throughout. The structure itself is extremely robust and showcases the craftsmanship typical of many Brisbane homes built in this era. One of the key goals of the renovation was to preserve the character of the original house while allowing the property to evolve into a modern family home. Some of the standout features include narrow timber floorboards, high ceilings throughout, an original fireplace and ornate cornicing and period detailing. These features give the home a timeless charm and make it a truly unique property within the Norman Park area.
Structural Engineering for Renovation Projects
Renovation projects often require careful structural assessment to ensure that the existing building can support any proposed changes. For this project, our structural engineering services included reviewing architectural drawings and proposed renovation plans, confirming relevant approvals and engineering requirements, conducting a detailed site inspection, assessing the existing structure and load paths, providing structural advice to support the renovation works and collaborating with the builder and architect during the project. Early involvement from the structural engineer helps ensure the renovation can proceed smoothly while maintaining the safety and integrity of the structure.
