Pergola & Entertainment Area Engineering – The Gap Brisbane

170 Moggill Road, The Gap

GDS Consulting Engineers, we regularly work with builders and architects across Brisbane to deliver structural engineering solutions for residential renovations and outdoor living spaces. One recent project we were pleased to be involved in was at 170 Moggill Road in The Gap, where we provided structural engineering input for a new pergola and outdoor entertainment area. The project was delivered in collaboration with builder Kirby Saunders and architect BAA House Studio, bringing together thoughtful design and structural engineering to enhance the functionality of the home.

A Unique Property in The Gap

Located on an impressive 4.05 hectare property, 170 Moggill Road offers a rare combination of space, privacy and natural surroundings while still being located within the Brisbane City Council area.

The property sits within the catchment for The Gap State School and The Gap State High School, making it an attractive location for families seeking a balance between lifestyle and accessibility. The home itself has undergone a beautiful structural renovation, creating a space that blends architectural design with functional outdoor living areas. Something we were very proud to be apart of.

Outdoor Living and Entertainment Design

Outdoor entertaining areas are an important part of many Brisbane homes, particularly in locations like The Gap where larger properties allow for generous outdoor spaces.

The pergola and entertainment area designed for this project was intended to create a comfortable outdoor living environment that integrates with the existing home while providing structural integrity and durability. Careful planning was required to ensure the design aligned with the overall renovation and worked effectively with the existing structure.

Our Role as Structural Engineers

At GDS Consulting Engineers, our role was to provide structural engineering support for the proposed pergola and entertainment area.

Our involvement included reviewing the pergola and entertainment area design, confirming project details with the builder and architect, collecting and reviewing structural plans, conducting a site inspection and providing updates and advice to support the client and project team throughout the process.

Early engineering involvement helps ensure that outdoor structures such as pergolas are designed to meet structural requirements while complementing the architectural vision of the project.

Working with Builders and Architects

Projects like this highlight the importance of collaboration between the builder, architect and structural engineer. For this project we worked closely with Builder: Kirby Saunders, Architect: BAA House Studio, and Structural Engineer: GDS Consulting Engineers to ensure the pergola and entertainment area could be delivered safely and effectively as part of the overall renovation.

It was a pleasure to be involved in the construction of such a beautiful home and to contribute to creating a functional outdoor living space for the property.
